Flickrty Too
Yep, I'm quite enjoying Flickr. I uploaded my entire picture stream, and am slowly re-entering the descriptions for all of them, and will probably pipe across a gallery or three this weekend. I'm commenting on friends' pictures, adding new ones of my own, and spending hours wandering around, looking at beautiful stuff. It's an infinitely huge, ever-growing coffee table book, filling with people, places, color, art and imagination. After spending an hour drifting about in the Interesting section, I feel bouyant and joyous, whereas an hour flicking tv channels makes me feel dirty and retarded, like I've been showered with IQ-reducing sewerage. Flickr has a personal Favorites, but I'm toying with the idea of creating a "cool Flickr pics" section here just so I can share some of the excellent photos I have seen. By the way, all of those were just from one bloody day - September 29th, 2005. Unbelievable.
Next to these, most of my photos look like steaming mongoose poop, which makes me want to jump crazily headlong into photography, osmosing every fragment of arcane technical and artistic voodoo necessary to capture such moments. I always told myself I was allowed to buy a nice new digicam only when my Digital Ixus ascended to the shiny brushed-metal halls of gadget heaven, but since it simply refuses to die, I might have to forcibly trade up. The Pentax Optio S5i is pure sex, but perhaps I should go completely batshit insane and get a Canon EOS 20D. Then girls would chase me, or perhaps allow me to take naked photos of them.
I'm also thinking about what's going to happen to this site when I remove all my galleries. Hamfisted.net cracked 700,000 hits last month, but the vast percentage of my hits come from image searches. images.google.com and its brethren completely dominate the top ten on my referrer list, and my images are regularly being inserted into various forums and blogs as well. I'll probably leave the main picture pages, but link over to Flickr sets and cackle in perverse amusement when my hit count drops like stone. I guess I'll have to come up with content beyond galleries of girls in sexy nurse's outfits.
