News-o-matic

  • Sydney schoolboy snares Miss Universe Australia 2006 for his formal. You can't help but admire the guy's chutzpah, although I hope he doesn't get smashed and throw up on her shoes.
  • It looks like Philips and Netgear are releasing a Skype cordless phone. It uses dual ports, with a standard phone line for normal calls and an ethernet socket for Skype calls. I would be sorely tempted to grab one of these if I used Skype with any regularity.
  • I'm sure the kitty in this Google video clip is really quite nice, but it seriously needs to work on its people skills if it's going to make it out of the shelter.
  • I've been considering getting a USB key recently, and while poking around looking for possible apps to run on it, I found TiddlyWiki, a rather cool personal Wiki-ish system, written entirely in HTML, CSS and Javascript.
  • Firefox 2.0 Beta 2 is out and ready to be played with, although remember that it is beta software, and may explode at any time, covering everyone in the vicinity with radioactive goo.
  • Ars Technica's August 2006 System Guide is up, and their Conroe-powered Hot Rod rig looks particularly flavoursome to me, although technically I suppose I don't actually need a home computer as long as I'm using my current kickass work laptop. My bank account thanks me, but my inner nerdboy sighs.
