Here's a Picture of My Sock

You may notice that there's a new picture in my What's New section, labeled Photo Stream. It's an idea I got from Flickr, the excellent photo sharing site, but it was really first seen in the blogging community under the name moblog. That particular name comes from welding mobile and blog together and throwing away a few bits, but I think it's pretty dumb word. Photoblog would be better, since it's a blog made of photos, not a blog made of mobiles, but even that sounds silly. Blog is an inherently ugly word, so I thought I'd steer clear of it.

My photo stream is basically a dynamic gallery, where I can continually add new photos. The lion's share of these were taken with my Nokia 6230 cameraphone, although there were a few snapped with my geriatric Canon Powershot S100. Either way, there are quite a few of them. New photos will automatically appear at front of the stream, so the ones in the first set should always be reasonably fresh and tasty. All this allows me to post pics of whatever I'm up to, even if it doesn't warrant an entire gallery, like an amusing car crash, or a girl taking her clothes off at a party. Well, either of those might be worth an entire gallery, if they were spectacular enough.

I might add the ability for other people to add comments to each photo, although I'm not aiming to write my own version of Flickr. It was an interesting little web app to write, and it lets me post pics quickly and easily, without paying anyone any money, being drowned in advertising or having someone called shadow_mistress8 writing inane comments under my pics about her ferret named Morpheus.
